EDP to Build Large Wind Farm in Poland's Neighborhood: "This Is an Important Step"

EDP to Build Large Wind Farm in Poland's Neighborhood: "This Is an Important Step"

EDP announced that at the beginning of 2025 it participated in the land tender for the Uelzen-Suderburg project in Lower Saxony, Germany.

It was organized by Caeli Wind, a cloud platform that identifies potential wind farm locations.

The procedure, as reported, was successful and EDP has already signed land lease agreements with the new partners .

This will enable the group, through EDP Renewables, to develop and build a large wind farm in Germany.

It was noted that this is EDP's first significant step towards wind energy in Germany , where the company already has photovoltaic projects under construction.

“This is an important step in realizing our ambition to increase EDP’s presence in the renewable energy sector in Germany using different technologies,” said Duarte Bello, CEO of EDP in Europe , quoted in the release.

The allocated land allows the group to develop a project with the potential of up to 38 wind turbines with a total estimated installed capacity of approximately 219 MW.

EDP, which originated in Portugal, entered the German market in 2022. The company began its operations in Poland in 2007 through EDP Renewables, and in 2020 expanded it to include EDP Energia Polska.

EDP’s largest shareholders as of the end of 2024 were China Three Gorges Corporation (21.4% of shares), BlackRock, Inc. (6.85%) and Oppidum Capital, SL (6.82%).
